Craig W. says:
"Evan is a very good communicator- listening to our needs and wishes as well as communicating what needed to be done for defensible space and home hardening. He showed up when he said he would and did his absolute best to work effectively with the tree cutting and brush clearing crews. Work was performed as promised in a timely manner.
The tree companies/subcontracting crews for the most part worked hard under challenging hot summer conditions. The end result on our property and the adjoining property not only reduces the fire risk greatly but it improves the appearance and value of the properties. Generally this was not a light trimming! On our north facing quite heavily treed slope just the right amount of trees were removed and thinned to make it much more fire safe without losing the beautiful aesthetic of the area. It was evident that safety precautions and requirements were being adhered to. Great care was taken during the consultation process, tree marking, and tree cutting. On our property the vegetation management was done in a thoughtful manner with the ecology of the area and aesthetics in mind. This initial reduction of fuel load on all of the lots in this area will last many years. There was a high degree of professionalism and experience and expertise that was employed during the process. This was much appreciated by us."

How long does the assessment take?
A Standard Home Assessment typically takes one hour, but making sure your home is protected is our priority, so we will stay longer if you have more questions.
An Estate Assessment typically takes less than two hours, or more if you have several unique structures and assets to look at. For a thorough evaluation, it is important to look critically at all structures, infrastructure, driveways, or other elements of the property that either need defense or are an asset to the defense.
What documents do I get?
Both Home & Estate Assessments include a Defensible Space and Home Hardening Checklist that is left with homeowner at the end of the inspection.
The Estate Assessment also includes a Property Action Plan with Map, which identifies project areas and prioritizes based on benefits and costs.
Does CWD execute the improvements needed?
CWD acts as an independent consultant, offering you help to understand how best to focus your efforts and money to prepare your home for wildfire. We will help you understand the rough expected costs and benefits associated with various upgrades. Our goal is to give you various solutions and prioritize them based on usefulness and affordability, and then you start working your way thru the list to do all you can do as you please.
Can CWD coordinate the work?
CWD does offer project management services or vendor oversight. Contact us for details.
Does CWD have suggested vendors?
Yes. We do have recommend vegetation management, home hardening, and home exterior sprinkler contractors.
What if the homeowner has a gal or a guy that can do the work?
In most cases we always encourage "your guy" if you have one. If you have a landscaper you are used to, or a handywoman that knows how to install upgraded vents, use them for whatever they can do, because there is a lot of work out there and you are going to need to maintain it not just this one time, but into the future also. But don't hurt or overwork your helpers... be sure to hire a contractor for the bigger and more dangerous work. Tree work can be very dangerous.
